Billionaire Elon Musk won't connect Starlink satellite internet service to Gaza without Israel's consent. Qatari media outlet Al Jazeera reported the news on Monday, citing Israel's communications minister. On the other hand, according to Reuters, Elon Musk arrived in Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, for a personal visit today.
Musk will meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, his office said on Sunday. He will also meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu previously met with Musk in California on September 18. At the time, he called on Musk to take action over the anti-Semitism he had tweeted.
He also spoke of finding a compromise between free speech and anti-Semitism. In a post on X, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi congratulated Musk for "getting to the root of the problem." "Starlink satellites must be approved by the country's Ministry of Communications to operate in Israel," he said. This includes the Gaza Strip.
Late last month, Elon Musk invited "reputable" humanitarian organizations to provide internet services in Gaza. At the time, Communications Minister Shlomo threatened that Israel would rule out any form of partnership with Starlink if Musk took this step. He claimed that Hamas militants are using Starlink connections to gain an advantage in the ongoing conflict.
