Amazon.com, the world's largest e-commerce provider, launches the Kindle Fire tablet. Currently it's called Amazon Fire. Quanta Computer developed the Kindle Fire. It has a 7-inch color touch screen. It runs on Fire OS. Fire OS is an Android-based operating system.
The first Kindle Fire cost $199. Kindle Fire HD was released in 2012 and Kindle Fire HDX was released in 2013. When the fourth generation of the device came out in 2014, "Kindle" disappeared from the name. This Fire tablet can also be converted into a smart speaker.
Amazon launched the Fire-7 in 2022 with significant technical improvements. Price is $59.99.
