IBM Systems/360 computer designer Jean Adol was born in South Dakota, USA. The IBM computer System/360 used integrated circuits (ICs) instead of transistors. At the same time, this computer was used for searches from punch cards to electronic computer systems.

After leaving IBM, Adol founded his own Adol Computer Corporation. The company successfully produced the first IBM-compatible mainframe computer. By 1979, sales of Adel Computer's V-6 and V-7 mainframes exceeded $1 billion. At the time, Adol had more than 6,000 employees worldwide.
