Elon Musk's Tesla is recalling more than 20 million electric vehicles from the U.S. regulator the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Tesla decided to recall the cars after it discovered a flaw in its self-driving technology.

The new decision will result in a recall of nearly all vehicles sold in the United States that rely on Tesla's self-driving technology. Since August 2021, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating the effectiveness of the Autopilot technology used in Tesla vehicles.

The investigation found that there were some flaws in the self-driving technology of Tesla vehicles. Even when the technology is enabled, the driver's role is required to control the vehicle. Tesla's Autopilot technology basically automatically controls the steering, acceleration and braking of a vehicle.

The technology can also support the driver when changing lanes on the motorway. However, the technology is not automatically used when changing lanes. Even with this technology, the role of the driver is still required to control the vehicle. 

As part of this new initiative, Tesla is recalling Model Y, Model X, Model Three, and Model X vehicles released after October 2012. However, Tesla did not disclose any information about whether its electric vehicles used in other countries outside the United States will be recalled.
