TikTok has removed a two-year-old letter from Osama Bin Laden titled "Letter to American People," which suddenly went viral. The company said in a statement that all videos related to the letter would be removed due to widespread backlash. According to the British media "The Guardian", Osama explained in this letter the reasons for the four suicide attacks on multiple facilities in the United States on September 11, 2001.
TikTok said in a statement that the contents of the letter violated the company's policy on supporting terrorism. The platform "proactively and comprehensively" removed the content. Additionally, TikTok is investigating how the letter spread. The videos refer to a 2002 letter from bin Laden published on The Guardian's website.
The videos went viral on several social media platforms early last week. The issue is believed to have surfaced via the account of TikTok star Lynette Adkins. TikTok uses the hashtag "Letter to America." The video by Lynette Adkins has been viewed by approximately 13.5 million people. Subsequently, TikTok officially deleted the video.
