US tech giant Apple is set to remove the selfie camera and Face ID sensor from the display of new iPhone models. In this case, the company introduced under-display camera (UDC).

South Korean technology company LG has begun developing an "under-screen camera" (UPC). This type of camera does not have a cutout for the smartphone display. Therefore, users will not be affected while playing games or watching videos. 

Presumably, Apple will retain the under-display sensors for cameras and Face ID in its future models. Dynamic island display no longer retains clippings. According to reports from Korean news agencies, LG Innotek is developing a UDC system.

If this technology is successful, it could capture better images even in low-light conditions. LG Innotek will use "freeform optics" lenses for the camera. In early 2021, LG applied for a patent for free-form optical technology.

They are working on "optical systems, camera modules and mobile terminals." The company claims that using this free-form lens can reduce problems when taking photos in low-light conditions. 

Despite media claims, Apple won’t be able to use UDC modules in its smartphones until 2026. Apple needs to add an "under-screen sensor" to check for Face ID before implementing this on the iPhone.

But judging from the process of placing this sensor below the screen, it is clear that future iPhone models will have "full screen" displays. But Apple isn't the first on this path.

Chinese smartphones ZTE Axon 30 5G and Xiaomi Mix 4 already use this technology. They launch in 2021. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 also have a low-resolution selfie camera below the display.
