Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is a series of action-adventure video games developed by David Jones and Mike Daly. Later games in the series were developed by brothers Dan and Sam Heiser, Leslie Benzis, and Aaron Garbutt. GTA is published by American Rockstar Games.

Rockstar North is the UK division of Rockstar that makes the games. GTA has gained huge popularity in the gaming community since its release. GTA is so popular that it has become synonymous with car theft in the United States. 

In Grand Theft Auto, players must complete missions along the storyline. The story of the game takes place in a real city from 1960 to 2010. In the original GTA, the game could be played in three cities. The three cities are Liberty City (headquartered in New York), San Andreas (headquartered in San Francisco), and Sin City (headquartered in Miami).

GTA is the best-selling video game of all time. 40.5 million copies of GTA have been sold. Several episodes of GTA have been released since its initial release on November 28, 1997. The latest episode of Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy – Definitive Edition was released on November 11, 2021.
